Obituary of Irene Ellen Ward

Irene Ellen Ward, also known as Rene, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2023, in Olympia, Washington. She was 71 years old. Born on January 28, 1952, Rene was the beloved daughter of Stanley and Lillian Heywood. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Russell Heywood. Rene is survived by her sister, Debbie Machen and her husband Terry. She is also survived by her children: Jennifer Ward, Debbie Cook and her husband Allen, James Ward III and his wife Amy, and Sheila Drew, who was like a daughter to her. Rene leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren, as well as two nieces and one nephew. In her younger years, Rene loved to fish and hunt, finding solace in the great outdoors. These hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to connect with nature. She was one of a kind. She spoke with no filter and was as stubborn as they came. She was known to test your patience. She loved her family and friends deeply and would give the shirt off her back if it would help someone. Rene was also known by the name Nana to many, it was a title she held proudly. We can only hope that she is now running around in Heaven with her hi-top Converse on, throwing a ball for our late dog, Charlie. Fly high, mom. We'll see you on the other side. Rene Ward will forever be remembered for her unique personality, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for her family and friends. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memories bring comfort to all those who knew and loved her. To honor Rene, a Celebration of Life will be held later.
